Thunder Frogs Might Be a Problem: Brawl Stars' Day 2 Sneak Peek

Our first impressions of Thunder Frogs' triangle attacks, potentially overpowered Super, Gadgets, Star Powers, and the new Brawl Vice skins.

After yesterday's Ranked changes, today's preview introduces Thunder Frogs: a Legendary Artillery Brawler with electric triangle attacks and a giant frog transformation. We can't wait to try them, but three Super jumps with healing available through Leech Landing are giving us prime Larry & Lawrie vibes.

Triangle Trick Rewards Careful Placement

Zap, Zee, and Volt are the three Thunder Frogs, performing together under the magical hat Ziggy gave them. Their main attack, Triangle Trick, sends a frog to a location, dealing area damage when it lands. Once the second frog has jumped, electricity connects all three in a triangle before they hop back together.

The triangle's edges deal more damage than its center: 3,000 along an edge compared with 2,100 inside at Power 11. Where you send the frogs determines where those edges end up, so a good setup could catch an opponent who dodged the initial landing.

That placement is what brings Lumi to mind. Her morning stars deal damage along their return paths, so where she leaves them matters too. With Super ready, Thunder Frogs could miss Triangle Trick and still jump after the opponent with Frogzilla. We're worried that fallback could make a bad setup more forgiving and leave Lumi feeling outclassed. We want to see how often that actually works before calling it power creep.

Frogzilla and Leech Landing Are Our Biggest Concern

With Frogzilla!, the three frogs combine into one giant frog that can jump three times. Each landing deals area damage, with more damage at the center. The transformation ends when all three jumps are used or its timer runs out.

The follow-up jumps are what worry us. If an opponent dodges the first landing, Frogzilla can jump toward where they moved. A Power 11 center hit deals 3,900 damage, so escaping the first jump still leaves two more chances to get caught.

Leech Landing makes those hits even more rewarding, healing Thunder Frogs for 50% of the damage dealt by Super jumps. Landing on an opponent could recover some of the health lost getting into the fight, making Thunder Frogs harder to finish off. Repeated jumps with that healing are why we think this Super could be overpowered.

Level 1 and Power 11 Stats

Their health reaches 7,000 at Power 11. Here's how the stats compare with Level 1; balance changes can still happen before release.

StatLevel 1Power 11
Health3,5007,000
Frog landing damage480960
Triangle area damage1,0502,100
Triangle side damage1,5003,000
Super damage1,5003,000
Super critical damage at the center1,9503,900

Movement speed is Normal, the main attack has Long range, and the Super has Normal range.

What About the Other Equipment?

Double Jumpers launches two frogs, but it requires a full ammo bar and spends all of it.

Soothing Shock makes the next main-attack triangle heal allies inside it. That asks you to position the frogs around your teammates, which could take some coordination when everyone is moving around in a fight.

The other Star Power, Swamp Stomps, adds a 15% slow for two seconds along the triangle's edges. An edge hit would deal the higher damage and slow the opponent, potentially helping a teammate follow up. Leech Landing supports the Super, while Swamp Stomps puts more emphasis on landing the triangle's high-damage edges.

The Hypercharge Comes in a Later Update

Triple the Tricks adds a damaging triangle between the three Super jumps, with more damage along its edges. Going for a center hit on each jump might not leave the best triangle afterward, so we're interested in how players balance those two sources of damage. The Hypercharge is coming in a later update, after the rest of the kit.

Brawl Vice: Better Effects Than Outfits

Today's skins come from the Brawl Vice season, and the new player title is Undercover. We're not especially excited about most of the designs. A few are kind of ugly to us, honestly. The VFX are much better, and that's what makes the set more interesting in gameplay than it looks in still images.

The Brawl Pass headliners are Brawl Vice Bull and Crime Pays Poco, both Epic. Each has two Pass chromas:

SkinChromas
Brawl Vice BullBrawl Vibes Bull and City Streets Bull
Crime Pays PocoPlayer Hating Poco and Game Hating Poco

The rest of the lineup is Undercover Buzz at Mythic, Undercover Pierce at Legendary, and Black Market Barley at Mythic. Emz gets City Days Emz, a Mythic skin, with City Nights Emz as its Mythic chroma.

Our Early Take

Our prediction depends on how reliably Frogzilla can hit opponents. Consistently dodging those landings would cut into both its damage and the healing we find so concerning.

We'll need gameplay and matchup evidence before giving you useful Thunder Frogs recommendations in PL Prodigy. Until then, we'd like to hear your first impressions in Discord. Does the kit look as strong to you, and which Brawl Vice skin is your favorite?
