Brawler Gameplay Style
Crow’s play style mostly involves dealing chip damage from far away and trying not to get hit. Try to constantly keep most enemies poisoned, and slowly build up your super while lowering their health. Once you get your super, you can jump on someone and finish them off if they are low hp.
Gear Selection
Vision (Ineffective/Situational): Crow’s poison already gives partial vision against enemies that are in bushes, and while the added vision granted by the gadget is still helpful as it still improves your vision against the target, the value you get from this gadget is still less than other gadgets comparatively.
Health (Ineffective): Crow has very low hp, and he shouldn’t be taking much damage. This gadget does improve Crow’s ability to wallpeek and trade shots with an opponent, while allowing you to heal more quickly and the opponent to take damage over time instead of healing up, the value you get from this gadget is still less than the alternatives.
Shield (Ineffective): Although Crow has low hp, his playstyle doesn’t involve much damage being taken as he’s rarely ever out of a fight long enough to take full advantage of the shield regeneration, so the extra Effective health isn’t as useful as the other Gear options.
Speed (Effective/Situational): Speed Gear is Effective on maps with lots of bushes, because it allows Crow to dodge shots a lot easier, as well as make favorable trades by carefully outrunning other mid-range opponents.
Damage (Situational): Crow benefits from extra damage, but generally does not spend much time below 50% health, as his playstyle normally is to chip away at opponents health, while hiding and regenerating his own health. However, it’s worth noting that the damage calculation for damage-over-time effects occurs on the initial hit and is sustained for the duration of the poison effect, unless another application of the poison is applied. This means that the additional damage from damage Gear is applied continuously as long as you do not hit the opponent with another poison application after you’ve healed back up past 50% health. This Gear is most Effective in interactions where lots of burst damage is dealt (tanks/assassins), because the damage boost applies instantly.
Gadget Charge (Effective): Crow’s Slowing Toxins gadget is one of the most powerful control effects in the game, so having an extra gadget charge drastically increases the control he brings to 3v3 game modes, and significantly increases his ability to secure kills in 1v1 game modes. This is the preferred Gear in all cases.
Enduring Toxins (Effective): Without this Gear, Crow’s poison damage (all 4 ticks) are equal to a single dagger’s initial hit damage. This inherently makes his poison damage equal to 50% of his total damage, and increasing the poison damage by 30% (the effect of this Gear), increases his total damage output by 15% all the time, which is decisively better than the 15% granted by Damage Gear which only applies when Crow is below 50% health. This is generally the best option, second only to Gadget Charge Gear.
Advanced Mechanics
At medium range, you can hit one dagger if you aim the center of your attack to hit your enemy, but two daggers if you aim slightly to the side.
If you are using the slowing toxins gadget, activate it right before you use your super, and jump on a slowed brawler, and they won’t be able to avoid the jump as easily.
If you are using the defense booster gadget and you jump on someone, activate it right after you use your super, as it will help you survive longer and give you more time to kill the enemy.
To maximize damage on the heist safe, if there are no enemies around, auto-aim your super when standing on the safe to hit all daggers. If there are enemies close by, manually aim your super as centered on the safe as possible, because auto-aim will usually aim at enemies.
Unless the enemy is important (gem carrier, has the ball, lots of stars), try to poison more than one enemy before using the Slowing Toxins gadget.
The way you should play against Crow depends on the brawler you are using. If you are using a long-ranged brawler, stay out of Crow’s range and snipe him from far away. If you are using a medium-ranged brawler, try to stay as far as possible while still dealing damage, so that only one or two of Crow’s daggers hit you. If you are using a close-ranged brawler, try to get on top of Crow, because his lack of DPS and health will make it very hard for him to kill you, and kill him. Also, if your brawler has any pets, like Nita’s bear or Tick’s head, you can use them to tank Crow’s non-piercing attack and get up close to Crow.
Brawler Interactions
Crow increases the time an enemy takes to start healing from 3 seconds to 7 seconds because of his poison.
If you use Crow’s super directly on the center of an enemy, they won’t get hit by any daggers, so aim to the side. The opposite is true of things with big hitboxes like the heist safe: if you land directly in the middle, all daggers will hit, dealing a huge amount of damage.
At power 11, Crow can 3-shot any brawler with 5760 HP or less. Hitting all daggers on his super would technically 1-shot any brawler, but it isn't possible in any real scenario due to small brawler hitboxes. It can be done on the enemy safe, IKE turret, and big robot, though.
With no speed boosts, Crow can auto-aim and hit any brawler with normal movement speed or slower.
Brawler Synergies
R-T: R-T and Crow synergize very well because Crow’s poison can trigger R-T’s marks very quickly, so as long as the enemy is poisoned, whenever R-T hits them, they will quickly take extra damage.
Piper, Bea, Brock, Mandy, (sharpshooters): Crow synergizes very well with most sharpshooters because whenever Crow activates his Slowing Toxins gadget, it makes it very easy for his teammates to hit their shots, which especially helps sharpshooters.
All Brawlers: Crow can synergize well with all brawlers because of his Slowing Toxins gadget and his Extra Toxic star power. This combination plus Crow’s entire kit (poison, jump, less healing, etc.) makes Crow a great addition to any team.
