Brawler Gameplay Style
Angelo is a passive brawler who keeps his range most of the time, staying away from enemies and hitting them from a safe distance. He doesn’t have good enough DPS to be close to brawlers, however, if a brawler is low health, he can go aggressive to guarantee a fully charged shot connecting.
While he is dependant on maps allowing him to utilize his range, he is good in all modes. The best ones are:
Gem grab - His jump gadget makes Angelo a great gem carrier, allowing him to escape dangerous situations. He has high damage and can kill or get low a lot of commonly played brawlers. With his super, he can also prevent enemies from healing, which will allow Angelo to pick up more gems.
Knockout - Best mode for him. All brawlers have to respect Angelo with super, as a fully charged shot can kill or get them VERY low health. He can always escape with his jump gadget to dodge dangers like a Piper curve or a brawler like Edgar jumping on him.
Bounty - Same reasons for knockout. High damage with just a single shot, insane survivability and instant pressure with his super.
Gear Selection
Speed (Ineffective) - Angelo is a longer range brawler who stays in the open.
Damage (Effective) - Can do a lot of damage and even 1 shot brawlers like Piper. Angelo also has trouble healing, so damage gear will come into effect a lot.
Health (Effective) - While charging his shot, Angelo doesn't heal. Health gear is very useful then, so that he doesn't take a long time to heal up. He can put on more pressure using this gear.
Shield (Effective) - Changes a few matchups. Notably, allows 1 more shot taken from Piper.
Vision (Ineffective) - Angelo’s shot is relatively narrow and doesn't have a spread attack, so he cannot effectively scout enemies. His super has this built in as well.
Gadget Charge (Situational) - More useful with the Master Fletcher Gadget, as Angelo most of the time doesn’t need an extra jump.
Advanced Mechanics
Angelo can jump with his gadget to the Heist safe and use his super on top of it, dealing 10% of its health. Angelo is more of a brawler who needs to stay alive and keep map control, but this can come in handy as an all in. This is also the only instance when you don't want to use your hypercharge alongside your super.
Angleo can auto aim his attack even with it fully charged. To get the fully charged auto aim, you have to hold the attack button and keep it in the center of the joystick (there should be no white line showing his attack); releasing the button will shoot the auto aim. Note that if you aim first then try to cancel it into to auto aim, it will cancel the attack as a whole and force you to restart the charging.
Against aggressive brawlers such as Mico, Mortis and Edgar, if there is water you can go on it, as they will not be able to hit you whilst on the water. This also works for Sprout and - occassionally - Gus, as they cannot directly shoot the water.
Angelo's piercing gadget can sometimes deal with pets (such as Tara's shadows or Charlie's spiders), however sometimes they do not line up and it can be hard to get all 3 at once.
When using the piercing gadget, you can activate it while charging your attack. This can catch people offguard if you can use it right before you let your shot go. Claw (3 finger) grip is recommended for this.
If your super is ending, it can be good in many situations to just get an uncharged hit on any enemy brawler in order to not let them heal until the poison is gone.
Angelo's attack charging can only be interrupted by knockbacks and stuns.
Angelo can step out of his super for ~1 second and still get the poison effect. This can be used for peeking around walls.
Brawler Interactions
Using Shield Gear allows Angelo to survive 1 more shot from Piper.
A fully charged shot with super can kill any enemy below 6000 HP.
Brawler Synergies
Ruffs → Not only does Ruffs's super increase Angelo's damage and health, it also increases Empower's healing!
Splash Damage → Any brawler that can quickly destroy enemy pets is good alongside Angelo.
Healers → Due to Angelo's inability to heal while charging up a shot, any healer is good with him.
Anti-Aggro → As Angelo's jump gadgets are finite, it's important to prevent enemies from using them up.
Slows → Brawlers like Mico, Crow or Bea are good with Angelo, as their slows allow him to auto aim fully charged shots even at max range!
